How do I connect to my Linux VPS over SSH?

With the IP address and root password shown on the VPS page, Access tab. User root, port 22.

  1. Client area, your VPS, Access tab (Access information): copy the IP address and the root password (Show/Hide).

  2. On Mac or Linux: ssh root@YOUR_IP in a terminal. On Windows: ssh root@YOUR_IP in PowerShell, or PuTTY.

  3. Paste the password (nothing shows as you type, that's normal).

I lost my VPS's root password

VPS page, Change root password: enter a new one (8 characters minimum) or let the client area generate one.

  1. Client area, your VPS, Change root password.

  2. Enter the new password or click Generate password.

  3. Confirm, then reconnect over SSH with this password.

How do I start, stop or restart my VPS?

VPS page, Quick actions: Start, Stop, Restart. Handy if the VPS stops responding over SSH.

How do I upgrade to a higher plan?

  1. First settle any pending renewal invoice.

  2. My plan section, choose the plan, confirm and pay.

  3. Restart the VPS if the new resources don't show up.

How do I reinstall my VPS or switch OS?

Rebuild button on the VPS page: choose the operating system. Warning: all data on the VPS is deleted.

  1. Back up your data elsewhere first.

  2. VPS page, Rebuild, select the OS.

  3. New root password: enter one or leave it blank to have it generated.

  4. Wait for "Installation/Rebuild in progress" to finish, then reconnect.

How do I set up reverse DNS (PTR) for my IP?

VPS page, PTR / Reverse DNS tab: enter the full domain name you want (e.g. vps.mydomain.com) and submit. That name must first point to the VPS IP (A record at your registrar).

  1. At your registrar, create an A record: vps.mydomain.com pointing to the VPS IP. Wait for it to become active.

  2. Client areaMy Servicesyour VPSPTR / Reverse DNS, Edit button on the IP, enter the name, then Submit request.

  3. The status changes to Awaiting validation, then Active: verification is automatic, allow about ten minutes.

Common errors

  • "Invalid PTR": you need a full name with a domain (vps.mydomain.com), not an IP or a bare name.
  • Request declined: the A record doesn't exist yet or points elsewhere. Fix it, then submit the request again.

Troubleshooting 1

I can no longer connect over SSH

Check the VPS's status in the client area, then the firewall: a rule that's too strict (ufw, iptables) or a changed SSH port cuts off access.

  1. VPS page: the status should be started; if not, click Start.

  2. "Connection refused": the SSH service or port has changed; "timeout": likely a firewall issue.

  3. Password rejected: reset it with Change root password.

  4. Still stuck: open a ticket with the VPS IP and the exact error message.
