How do I connect to my Garry's Mod server?

Open the Garry's Mod console and type connect IP:port with the address from the service page. You can also add it as a favorite in Steam (View, Game Servers).

  1. Enable the console: Options, Keyboard, Advanced, "Enable developer console".

  2. Press ² (or ~), then connect IP:port, Enter.

How do I choose the game mode and map (DarkRP, TTT, Sandbox)?

The game mode and map are set in the GamePanel's Server Options (GAMEMODE and SRCDS_MAP). A mode like DarkRP must already be on the server first, either as a folder or through the Workshop.

  1. If the mode isn't included with the game, add it: a folder in garrysmod/gamemodes (File Manager) or via your Workshop collection.

  2. GamePanelServer Options: GAMEMODE (for example darkrp or terrortown for TTT), SRCDS_MAP for the map, MAX_PLAYERS.

  3. Restart.

How do I add Workshop addons?

Create a Steam Workshop collection with your addons, then give the server its ID: it downloads everything on startup, and so do players when they connect.

  1. Steam, Garry's Mod Workshop: create a public collection and add your addons to it.

  2. Copy the number at the end of the collection's address (?id=…).

  3. GamePanelServer Options: paste it into WORKSHOP_ID, then restart.

Common errors

  • The collection is private or unlisted: make it public, otherwise the server can't see it.
  • An addon that isn't on the Workshop: upload its folder to garrysmod/addons.

Troubleshooting 1

My server won't start or doesn't show up in the list

Most often, an addon breaks startup (Lua error in the console). To show up in the public list, the server also needs a Steam token (GSLT) in STEAM_ACC.

  1. Check the GamePanel console: the addon at fault is named in the Lua error. Remove it from the collection or the addons folder, then restart.

  2. Steam token: on Steam's game server account management page, create a token with App ID 4000.

  3. GamePanelServer Options: paste it into STEAM_ACC, then restart.

  4. Still stuck: open a ticket with the last lines of the console.
