How do I connect to my Terraria server?

In Terraria, Multiplayer, Join via IP: enter the IP then the port shown on the service page. With tModLoader, it's the same path, just from tModLoader instead.

  1. Wait for the GamePanel console to show the server is listening ("Server started").

  2. Terraria, Multiplayer, Join via IP: choose your character.

  3. Enter the IP, then the port, and the password if there is one.

Common errors

  • Version mismatch between the game and the server: update your game, or use tModLoader if the server is modded.
Backups, subdomain, SFTP and ports

These topics are common to every game: see the GamePanel fiche. For SFTP, follow the step-by-step FileZilla guide.

  1. Help center home, GamePanel fiche (all games).

Guides 3

How do I change the world, name or password?

The server's settings are in the GamePanel's Server Options. To play on your own world, upload its .wld file to the server.

  1. Stop the server.

  2. GamePanelServer Options: change the setting you need.

  3. Your single-player world is on your PC in Documents/My Games/Terraria/Worlds. Upload the .wld file to the server's worlds folder (File Manager); if Server Options asks for a world name, use the same name as the file.

  4. Start the server.

How do I install tModLoader and mods?

First install tModLoader from the Mod Manager: it turns your server into a modded server. Then common mods (Calamity, Thorium, Magic Storage…) install in one click from the same place. Players connect with tModLoader (free on Steam) and get the mods automatically.

  1. Stop the server, then GamePanelAdvancedMod Manager: install tModLoader.

  2. Start it once: the first launch takes 1 to 2 minutes.

  3. Install your mods from the same list, then restart.

Common errors

  • Calamity needs memory: plan for at least 4 GB of RAM.
  • Uninstalling tModLoader restores vanilla Terraria; your mods stay in the Mods folder.
  • A mod missing from the list: drop its .tmod file into Mods and add its name to Mods/enabled.json.
How do I change the Terraria version?

GamePanelServer OptionsVersion: latest for the newest, or a specific number (for example 1449 for 1.4.4.9). The version installs by reinstalling the server from GamePanelAdvancedServer Actions.

  1. Copy the worlds folder first (File Manager or SFTP).

  2. Server Options, Version: latest or the number you want.

  3. Stop the server, Advanced menu, Server Actions: reinstall, then start it.

Common errors

  • tModLoader server: it's the tModLoader version that matters here, see mods.

Troubleshooting 1

My modded server crashes or refuses players

Two causes come up most: not enough RAM (large mods use a lot) and mismatched mods between server and player. The GamePanel console shows which mod is at fault.

  1. Read the last lines of the console at the moment it crashed.

  2. Remove the last mod you added and restart to test.

  3. RAM maxed out: service page, My plan section (Overview tab).

  4. Player gets refused: they need to launch tModLoader (not Terraria) and accept the mod download.
