How do I connect to my Palworld server?

In Palworld, Join Multiplayer Game: enter the IP address and port shown in the GamePanel at the bottom, then Connect.

In the GamePanel

your serverConsoleOpen

Before you start

The server started in the GamePanel.

  1. In the GamePanel, copy your server's address and port.

  2. In the game, choose Join Multiplayer Game.

  3. In the field at the bottom of the list, paste the address and port (IP:port format), then Connect.

  4. If the server has a password, the game asks for it at that point.

Common errors

  • On first start, the server downloads the game: wait for loading to finish in the console before connecting.
  • The game's password isn't your GamePanel one: they're two different things.
What settings can I change in the GamePanel?

The Server Options page gathers the basic settings: name, description, password, player count, admin password, platform and updates. Change the value, then restart the server.

In the GamePanel

your serverServer OptionsOpen
  1. GamePanelyour serverServer Options.

  2. Nom du serveur (Server name) and Description du serveur (Server description): what shows up in the server list.

  3. Mot de passe du serveur (Server password): asked of players to join. It's empty at install, so the server is open to anyone with the address.

  4. Nombre maximum de joueurs (Max number of players), Mot de passe admin (Admin password), Plateforme de connexion (Connection platform), Mise à jour automatique (Auto update): see the dedicated questions below.

  5. Restart the server: a change only applies on startup.

Common errors

  • IP publique (Public IP) and Port RCON (RCON port) are left as is: your server's address is used automatically.
  • Rates (experience, capture, harvest) and game options aren't in Server Options: see the question on PalWorldSettings.ini.
How do I increase the number of players?

The server is set to 4 players at install. Increase Nombre maximum de joueurs (Max number of players) in Server Options (32 at most), then restart.

In the GamePanel

your serverServer OptionsOpen
  1. GamePanel, your server, Server Options.

  2. Change Nombre maximum de joueurs (Max number of players).

  3. Restart the server.

Common errors

  • More players needs more memory: if the server lags or stops, move to the plan above (see the GamePanel fiche).
How do I update my Palworld server?

With Mise à jour automatique (Auto update) set to 1 (the default), the server updates itself on every start. After a game update, a restart is enough.

In the GamePanel

your serverServer OptionsOpen
  1. GamePanelServer Options: check that Mise à jour automatique (Auto update) is set to 1.

  2. When Palworld releases an update, restart the server and wait for loading to finish in the console.

Common errors

  • "Different version" message on connecting: the game and server aren't on the same version. Restart the server, and update the game on each PC or console.
  • On Xbox and PS5, the update sometimes arrives a few hours after Steam: wait until it's out everywhere.
  • Make a copy of your world before a major update (see the question on backups).
Can I play crossplay (Xbox, PS5)?

Yes: customers play between Steam and Xbox, and between Steam and PS5, on our servers. Leave Plateforme de connexion (Connection platform) on Steam, the default value.

In the client area

SupportOpen
  1. GamePanelServer OptionsPlateforme de connexion (Connection platform): leave it on Steam.

  2. Connect a Steam player first to check the server responds.

  3. Then have the console player join, with the address and port.

  4. If it fails, open a ticket with the platform and the error message.

Can I install mods or switch the server to Windows?

Our game servers run on Linux, and we don't offer mods for Palworld. For a self-managed Windows server, you need a Windows VPS.

In the client area

OrderOpen
  1. Stay on the Palworld server as installed: every official setting is available (Server Options and PalWorldSettings.ini).

  2. To install a Windows server yourself, see the Windows VPS fiche: you manage everything there.

Backups, subdomain, SFTP and ports

These topics are common to every game: see the GamePanel fiche. For SFTP, follow the step-by-step FileZilla walkthrough.

  1. Help center home, GamePanel fiche (all games).

Guides 4

How do I change XP rates, capture rates or game options?

These settings are in the server's PalWorldSettings.ini file. Stop the server, edit the value in the File Manager, save, then start it.

In the GamePanel

your serverFile ManagerOpen
  1. Stop the server in the GamePanel.

  2. File Manager: open Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini.

  3. Find the setting you want (Ctrl+F) and change its value. Examples: ExpRate=2.000000 doubles experience, bAllowGlobalPalboxExport=True and bAllowGlobalPalboxImport=True turn on the global Pal box.

  4. Save, then start the server.

Common errors

  • Everything sits on one long line, OptionSettings=(...): don't remove any comma or parenthesis, or the server restarts with default values.
  • The name, passwords and player count are rewritten on every start from Server Options: change them there, not in the file.
  • World imported from a solo or co-op game: if it contains a WorldOption.sav file, its settings take priority over PalWorldSettings.ini. Rename it (server stopped) so your settings apply.
  • Reinstalling the server puts a fresh file back: the old one is kept alongside it, renamed with the date.
How do I become admin and use admin commands?

In game, type /AdminPassword followed by the admin password in chat. This password is created at install and can be found in Server Options.

In the GamePanel

your serverServer OptionsOpen
  1. GamePanelServer Options: note down Mot de passe admin (Admin password).

  2. In game, open chat and type /AdminPassword your-password.

  3. Admin commands then go through chat. /ShowPlayers lists players and their ids. /KickPlayer or /BanPlayer followed by an id kicks or bans them. /Save saves, /Broadcast writes to everyone.

  4. From the GamePanel console, the same commands work without typing a password.

Common errors

  • Don't give this password to players: it grants full control over the server.
  • The GamePanel rejects an empty admin password or one with spaces: letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores only, 30 characters max. Same rule for Mot de passe du serveur (Server password).
  • In /Broadcast, spaces cut the message short: replace them with underscores.
How do I back up or recover my save?

Your world is in the Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ folder. To keep a copy, compress this folder in the File Manager and download the archive, or copy it over SFTP.

In the GamePanel

your serverFile ManagerOpen
  1. Type /Save in the console to write the game to disk.

  2. File Manager, Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/: the three dots to the right of the folder, Compress.

  3. Download the archive created. Over SFTP, just drag the folder to your PC (FileZilla walkthrough).

  4. For automatic daily backups with one-click restore, see the Backups add-on in the GamePanel fiche.

Common errors

  • After the service expires, data isn't kept: download your world before it ends if you want to keep it.
  • Running this world on your own PC in solo isn't covered by our support: you need Palworld's dedicated server installed on your PC.
Can I import a solo or co-op save onto the server?

Yes for the world: copy the save folder into Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, then point the server to its name. The original host's character doesn't carry over automatically.

In the GamePanel

your serverFile ManagerOpen

Before you start

The save on your Steam PC, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\<your Steam id>\.

  1. Start the server once, then stop it.

  2. Upload the save folder (its name is a long string of letters and numbers) into Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, over SFTP.

  3. Open Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/GameUserSettings.ini and put this name after DedicatedServerName=.

  4. Start the server: bases, Pals and guest players carry over.

Common errors

  • The co-op game's host starts from scratch: their character is tied to the local game. Community tools fix this, but it isn't covered by our support.
  • Xbox and Game Pass saves aren't in this format: they don't copy over as is.
  • Keep a copy of the save before importing.

Troubleshooting 1

The server lags or stops after a few hours

Palworld uses more and more memory as the hours go by. One restart a day frees it up; if the server still stops, the plan is too tight for your number of players.

In the GamePanel

your serverConsoleOpen
  1. Restart the server once a day, at a quiet time.

  2. Check memory usage on the GamePanel's Console page.

  3. If it hits the plan's limit, lower Nombre maximum de joueurs (Max number of players) or move to the plan above (GamePanel fiche).

Common errors

  • A very large base full of Pals drives up memory and lag for everyone.
