Essentials 3
Where do I find or change my server's password?
The password the game asks for is set in GamePanelServer OptionsServer Password. It must be 5 to 20 characters.
Before you start
Your GamePanel credentials, sent by email when you ordered.
Log in to the GamePanel and open your Valheim server.
Go to Server Options and find Server Password.
Note it down, or replace it with your own (5 to 20 characters).
Restart the server to apply a new password.
Common errors
- The in-game password isn't the GamePanel one: they're two different things.
- A change without a restart isn't applied.
Can you play crossplay (Xbox, Game Pass)?
Yes, crossplay is enabled by default (Enable Crossplay set to 1 in Server Options). Steam and Xbox or Game Pass players can join the same server.
Check in Server Options that Enable Crossplay is set to 1, then restart if you changed it.
Xbox or Game Pass players search for the server by name in the list, or use the invite code shown in the console at startup.
Enter the server password to get in.
How do I back up my Valheim world?
With the paid Backups add-on, the server is backed up every day and restores in one click from the GamePanel. Without it, backing up is on you: download the world folder to your PC before any major change.
With the Backups add-on: GamePanelManagementBackupsCreate, before adding mods or updating.
Without the add-on: File Manager or SFTP, download your world's
.fwland.dbfiles (the.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_localfolder).Stop the server cleanly from the GamePanel: it saves the world before shutting down.
Guides 4
How do I connect to my Valheim server?
In Valheim, go to Join Game then Add Server: paste the IP address and port shown in the GamePanel, then enter the server password.
Before you start
The server started in the GamePanel, and its password (Server Options).
In the GamePanel, copy your server's address and port.
In the game: Start, pick a character, the Join Game tab.
Click Add Server, paste the address and port, then connect.
Enter the server password when the game asks for it.
Common errors
- The server can take a few minutes to show up on first start: wait for the console to finish loading.
- To hide it from the public list, set Public Server to 0 in Server Options; connecting by address still works.
How do I set the world's difficulty (world modifiers)?
World settings are chosen in Server Options: an overall preset (Preset de difficulté, difficulty preset) or modifiers one by one (combat, death penalty, resources, raids, portals). Blank means normal.
Stop the server from the GamePanel.
In Server Options, choose a "Preset de difficulté" (difficulty preset, for example casual or hardcore), or leave it blank.
Adjust modifiers if needed: for example setting "Modificateur : raids" (raids modifier) to none removes raids, and "Modificateur : portails" (portals modifier) to casual lets metals pass through.
Restart: the settings apply to the loaded world.
Common errors
- A field left blank keeps the game's normal setting.
- Settings are read again on every start: without a restart, nothing changes.
How do I import my world or local save?
Upload your world's two files (.fwl and .db) over SFTP into the server's worlds folder, then set its name in World Name.
Before you start
An SFTP client (FileZilla, WinSCP) and your local files, on Windows in %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local.
Stop the server.
Over SFTP, open .config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local and drop in your MyWorld.fwl and MyWorld.db files.
In Server Options, set World Name to MyWorld (the file name, without the extension).
Restart the server.
Common errors
- You need both files: a .db alone won't load the world.
- A name that doesn't match exactly creates a new, empty world.
How do I install mods (BepInEx, Valheim Plus)?
Everything is done from the GamePanel's Mod Manager: BepInEx first, then mods from the list (Valheim Plus, Epic Loot, PlanBuild, Seasonality…), each in one click. Nothing to download or configure.
Stop the server, then GamePanelToolsMod Manager (at the bottom of the sidebar, under Advanced).
Install "BepInEx (requis pour les mods)" (BepInEx, required for mods) first: type BepInEx in the search box to find it.
Then install your mods from the same list.
Start the server: the console shows "BepInEx activé : chargement des mods" (BepInEx enabled, loading mods).
A mod missing from the list: download it from Thunderstore and upload its
.dllintoBepInEx/plugins, then restart.
Common errors
- Players need the same mods, in the same versions, when the mod's description says so ("Joueurs : même mod requis", players need the same mod). Otherwise the connection fails or the mod doesn't work.
- Uninstalling BepInEx also removes every mod: the server goes back to normal Valheim.
- Make a backup before adding mods: some of them change the world.
