Essentials 2

How do I connect to my DayZ server?

From the DayZ Launcher, Servers tab, Direct Connect: enter the IP and port from the service page. The launcher also offers to download the server's mods.

  1. Wait until the GamePanel console shows the server is ready.

  2. DayZ Launcher, Servers, Direct Connect: IP, port, then Join.

Backups, subdomain, SFTP and ports

These topics are common to all games: see the GamePanel article. For SFTP, follow the step-by-step FileZilla tutorial.

  1. Help center home, GamePanel article (all games).

How do I change the name, password and player settings?

In GamePanelServer Options: Server Name, Server Password, Admin Password and the player count. The server overwrites these lines in serverDZ.cfg on every startup: editing them in the file does nothing, they get reset.

  1. GamePanel, Server Options: name, password, admin password, max players. You'll also find third-person view, the crosshair and day/night speed there.

  2. Restart the server.

  3. In game, type #login your_admin_password in chat to get admin rights.

  4. Other settings (the ones not in Server Options) stay in serverDZ.cfg, via GamePanelFile Manager, server stopped.

How do I add mods?

The easiest way: export your mod list from the DayZ Launcher and upload it to the server as modlist.html. The server reads it on startup and loads the listed mods. A mod added manually is declared in GamePanelServer OptionsAdditional Mods.

  1. DayZ Launcher, Mods tab: check the mods you want, then "Export" (or "Export preset") to get an .html file.

  2. Rename it modlist.html and upload it to the server's root (File Manager or SFTP). The expected file name is set in Server Options, Modlist File.

  3. Restart and check the console: the mods download on startup, using the Steam account set in Server Options (Steam Username and Password). Use a Steam account dedicated to the server, without Steam Guard, never your personal account.

  4. Mod added manually: @modname folder at the root, its .bikey in keys, then @modname; in Server Options, Additional Mods. A server-side-only mod goes in "[Advanced] Server-Side Only Mods".

Common errors

  • Folder names in Additional Mods: no capitals, no spaces, each name followed by a ;.
  • Players must have exactly the same mods: the launcher offers them automatically when connecting.
  • Mods won't download: check the Steam account in Server Options, otherwise open a ticket with the last lines of the console.

Troubleshooting 1

Players get kicked or the server crashes on launch

Getting kicked on connection often comes from a missing .bikey key or an outdated mod on the server. A crash on launch usually comes from a misconfigured mod or an error in serverDZ.cfg.

  1. Check that every mod has its .bikey in keys.

  2. Re-upload the latest version of the mod if the Workshop updated it.

  3. Check the console, remove the last mod you added, restart.

  4. Still stuck: open a ticket with the last lines of the console.
